Houseables Craft Corner: DIY Christmas Ornaments

The Christmas season is for family bonding, and a great way to spend quality time is to create your own tree ornaments together. We’ve put together this brief guide for making cute ornaments your loved ones will cherish for years to come.

Rudolph Ornament

What You’ll Need:

Houseables Fillable Light Bulb

Hot Glue Gun with Houseables Hot Glue Sticks

Houseables Jute Twine String

Brown Acrylic Paint

2 Googly Eyes

1 Red Pom-Pom

1 Brown Pipe Cleaner

1 Pair of Scissors

Instructions:

1. Paint the outside of your  Houseables Fillable Light Bulb brown. This may require multiple layers for a more opaque finish. We recommend allowing each layer to dry completely before applying the next.

2. Once your bulb is painted and dry, use your hot glue gun with  Houseables Hot Glue Sticks to adhere the googly eyes along the neck.

3. Glue your red pom-pom beneath the eyes.

4. Fold your pipe cleaner into an even “V”. Cut off two small pieces from both ends. Wrap the tip of the small pieces along the “V” to form an antler-like shape, then glue the “V” along the nape of your reindeer’s neck.

5. Poke out the silver top of your light bulb cap from the inside.

6. Thread a piece of  Houseables Jute Twine through the cap and tie both ends into a knot.

Frosty Ornament

What You’ll Need:

Houseables Fillable Light Bulb

Hot Glue Gun with  Houseables Hot Glue Sticks

Houseables Jute Twine String

White Acrylic Paint

Green Acrylic Paint

2 Googly Eyes

1 Orange Pipe Cleaner

1 Brown Pipe Cleaner

Ribbon of your choice

1 Pair of Scissors

Instructions:

1. Paint your Houseables Fillable Light Bulb white. Set aside some time for your paint to dry as it may require more than one coat.

2. Once your white paint is dry, take a round tip brush and draw green circles down the center of the bulb to form buttons. Let the paint dry before proceeding to the next step.

3. Take your ribbon roll and cut an ample piece off. This will be used to create a scarf for your snowman, so keep that in mind as your measure to your desired length. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the bulb.

4. Fill your glue gun with Houseables’ Hot Glue Sticks and once heated, use it to stick a pair of googly eyes just below the gold cap.

5. Take one orange pipe cleaner and a ½ inch piece off. Use the hot glue to stick it right below the googly eyes to form a nose. The wire tip of the pipe cleaner should be the side touching the bulb.

6. Now, grab a brown pipe cleaner and cut two 1 ½ inch pieces and two ½ inch pieces. Twist one of your ½ inch pieces around one of the 1 ½ inch pieces to form a forked shape, creating an arm for your snowman. Do the same with the other two pieces of pipe cleaner. Use your hot glue to position an arm to each side of the bulb.

7. Poke out the silver top of your light bulb cap from the inside.

8. Thread a piece of Houseables Jute Twine through the cap and tie both ends into a knot.
